Sirens is the work of an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit team. We create space for the Sirens community as our small way of changing the world—and we do this out of love, not because we get paid (we don’t!) or because capitalism allows us ample free time (it doesn’t!).

We fund Sirens more like the charitable organization we are than a for-profit conference: We present a conference full of brilliant speakers, a cozy reading room, and communal meals—and then price it well below cost so that as many of you as possible are able to attend.

While we talk a lot about community at Sirens, Sirens is possible financially only through generous donations—and a lot of them. Like any village, people support Sirens in different ways. Some of you volunteer your time, some of you present programming, and those of you who can donate funds to cover our costs: your meals, presenters’ audiovisual equipment and accessibility tools, registration systems fees and so on. It simply isn’t possible to present Sirens in its community-based form, at the registration prices we offer, without also raising tens of thousands of dollars in donations.
